Nice park. There are not a lot of trails, but they are well maintained. The campground is OK, not a lot of trees for shade in the main area. The Indian mounds are interesting and the river flowing through the park is peaceful.
Loved camping here. There is an airport right next to it and you can hear the planes but didn't effect our camping experience. Cool trails and the grounds are kept up wonderfully. Short hike to the river. Bathrooms could use some good vacuuming to get rid of cobwebs and spiders and some new shower curtains are needed but over all we are planning to go again. In fact, we will make it a yearly trip if we can. And it's in good location to get to the casino. Staff is very friendly and camping spots are quite large. At least ours were. Wonderful place to stay. Dump station is easily accessed when leaving and there are places to fill your fresh water before getting to your spot. Loved our stay!
This is a beautiful park with lots of different paths that you can take. The White River is basically crystal clear. Next time I'm in the area, I'll definitely stop by for another visit.
Great day trip for the family...explore and learn through the exhibits. However, the park employees were unfriendly and not helpful. On the website it promoted "Paint Chip Hiking - inquire at the Nature Center". The woman at the gift shop told us we needed to talk to the Naturist and pointed to a door. The Naturist seemed bothered by the interruption and showed us paint chips and said it wasn't a big deal...there are only a few paint chips left and all you do is take them and try to match the colors...then walked away. We drove down to take a look at the campground for a future camping trip. The lady at the check in area was borderline rude. I would be remiss if I did not mention that the lady at the front gate was pleasant and helpful. We were glad that we came to see the mounds...the property was beautiful, but we will not be back for camping
My wife and I loved spending the afternoon in the park. It's $7 or car and she said that she couldn't use my card. Instead of making me fumble for cash she just let us drive in! The park is small but fun to experience the history. The mounds are some of the best preserved Native American relics we have local to this area. I'd love to go visit the park on one of the solstices! (I shared a picture that shows how the mounds line up with the summer solstice, equinoxes and the winter solstice). These mounds aren't a ton to look at but they are effectively the "Stonehenge" of Indiana.
